Gentle Yoga is a slow pace style of yoga, focusing on breath awareness, increasing flexibility, and balance. Experience the calming and therapeutic benefits of yoga through gentle flows and postures with longer holds, mindful breathing, and props for support. Breathwork (pranayama), warm-up stretches, longer-held poses, and extended relaxation (savasana) are part of every class. Gentle yoga is suitable for most people.
Yin Yoga is slow-paced meditative style of yoga that embraces principles of traditional Chinese medicine. It targets our connective tissues – ligaments, joints, bones, fascia and the meridians. Yin yoga works in our body's deep tissues with longer-held passive poses (usually 3 to 5 minutes). Most poses are done on the floor and are accessible to most students. Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to calm and balance mind and body!
Yoga for Menopause
Contact me about hosting a Menopause Yoga (MY) class or workshop at your studio or for your small group. MY is a specially adapted yoga practice with breathing techniques and mindful meditation exercises to help manage the symptoms from perimenopause to post-menopause. This supportive practice is beneficial to those in perimenopause or years past menopause.
Welcome! I'm Cheri.
I began my yoga journey over 20 years ago while trying to manage low back and abdominal pain from endometriosis. The practice of movement and breath eased my pain and calmed my soul. From that point, I was hooked! After ten years of practice, I took my first yoga teacher training and began volunteering at my local senior center. I continued volunteering while running a small business with my husband and raising our daughter. Over the next decade, I grew in my practice and knowledge of yoga and shared this with anyone willing to listen!
In 2020 when life as we all knew it shifted (to say the least), I committed to teaching yoga as my life's work. I wanted people to know they were essential and that yoga would meet their body and soul right where it was. This idea was the genesis of Essential Soul Yoga.
I am passionate about teaching accessible and supportive yoga! I believe there is a yoga style for everybody, regardless of age, shape, or flexibility. I especially enjoy teaching yoga for women's wellness to support women through midlife and beyond.
